The biggest adventure yet

What a way to start my blog...this weekend we went to DC for vacation and had a GREAT time. I really recommend ALL the Smithsonian's! First they are packed with wonderful exhibits but best of all they are free. We went to the air and space & natural history museums. Our kids loved it but it was a little to much walking...look out Hershey Park. I told them that they better get used to walking a lot because Hershey Park is really big.

Anyway...the adventure began when Aaron said that he wasn't feeling well. I thought nothing of it and told him we had better leave the city before the traffic...so off we went. We made it to the 495 interchange when he said that he really wasn't feeling well. Once again I was thinking he was fine. We get to the 270 and he said he just couldn't drive any farther. I told him to pull off anytime and I would drive. I was driving for about 10 minutes when I heard a few loud snorts coming from Aaron. At first I thought he was just kidding around with David and then I looked over and he was slumped against the window with his glasses all eschewed and a really vacant look in his eyes. I panicked. I was driving about 70 and there really isn't a good place to pull over so I began to pat Aaron on the arm. No response...I patted him on the leg and yelled his name...no response...I banged on his chest and yelled his name over and over and over...finally he started blinking his eyes.

Me: Aaron are you okay...
Aaron: Take me to the hospital.
Me: Are you okay?
Aaron: I feel really sick.

Still driving about 70 I start looking for the beloved blue H sign. Meanwhile Aaron breaks in a sweat and says he is really cold and feels really sick. After a few minutes (but seemed like FOREVER) we see a sign in Fredrick. I pull off and start toward the hospital.

I turned off the radio and asked Sarah to say a prayer. She said that she already had. I almost started crying.

We made it to the hospital and fortunately there was no on in the waiting room (15 minutes later 10 people came in). 3 hours, blood work, e-rays, cat scans, iv's...Aaron was walking out of there. The doctor told him it was Vasovagal syncope which is what he was hoping.

The kids loved it. They got to watch two episodes of Sponge Bob (a show they rarely see...I wonder why) and then we got to eat at Old McDonald's (another rare occasion).

I was sick the next day with the same bug, but I didn't have as bad of symptoms.

Whew...hopefully our next adventure will not involve any life threatening situations!

I was thinking about this later...what would have happened if he was still driving...or what would have happened if he would have been driving home from work...or what would have happened if we had been an hour down the road and no hospitals. We were really blessed and looked after! This is a time to really count your blessings!

Hooray for your new blog!

I'm shocked you didn't cry. I almost cried just reading it! Especially the cute part about Sarah saying the prayer without prompting.

I had to laugh, though, that Aaron was hoping it was vasovagal syncope. Only a Dr. would hope for such a thing. Who else would even have a clue??

Glad everything turned out ok.

I had two reactions to reading this

1. Yay, Yay, Yay- Julie is blogging!

2. holy crap- I woulda been crying and freaking out a lot more than you. But like you said things could have gone worse-I'm glad everybody is alright. Sarah is such a good girl.
