Emotional week

This week has been very emotional for me! Yesterday was President Hinckley's funeral and it was very touching. We didn't stay for the gravesite ceremony so I am going to check if it is on line. You could see the change in President Monson. I bet it is hard on him because President Hinckley has been with him for over the last 50 years!

After the funeral I finished reading The Fire and the Covenant. It is really one of the best books I have read! There were so many touching stories in there, but one that really moved me was a story of a husband and wife. It was freezing (with the wind chill about 50 below 0!) and they hadn't eaten well for about a week (1/4 cup flour a day and snow for water). The husband was about 6'5 and the wife was about 5'. It tells how his feet were so badly frostbitten that he just couldn't go on. Their 5 year old son just died and he told his wife that he was going to lie down and die. She told him, get in the cart and I will pull (something that she couldn't have done without the Lord's help). Later in the Salt Lake Valley he was bishop! What a remarkable story! I had always heard about the Willie Martin handcart company (and Aaron's Aunt is married to a Willie) but have never really heard the stories. It is a fat book (due to the actual diary excerpts at the end of each chapter) but it is well worth it!
