Touching story

Aaron shared a good story from the Priesthood session that I didn't want to forget...

Elder Bednar was taking questions and one of the question was:

We all have good things to give our time to and we are all pulled in different directions, where should we put our focus? (Aaron has really had a hard time with this because work is REALLY demanding, he feels like he doesn't do enough in his church calling and most of the time he only sees the kids right before bed or not at all).

Elder Bednar said that at different times in our life work, family and church will be taking the most of our time. He said that we should follow the spirit and try to fulfill our duties. He then shared this story:

When Elder Bednar was a stake president, he was at a stake meeting like the one Aaron was attending. His son was in a state basketball championship final game. There was a man in the audience whose son was on the opposing team. He had a sudden impression to take this man to the game. He thought that was a crazy idea and he would have to leave right then if they were going to make it because it was 1.5 hours away. The more he thought about it the more he knew that was what had to be done. He asked his counselor if he would be able to run the meeting without him...the answer was yes. Then he asked his secretary if he could go and ask this man to see him in his office. Elder Bednar told the man that they needed to be at this state championship game. When they walked into the game the boys were really thrilled and a little shocked that they were there. A few months after the game the boy of the other man was chopping wood and a piece of metal from the ax flew into his heart. He didn't realize that he was bleeding internally and was dead before they reached the hospital. The man called Elder Bednar and when he arrived the man threw his arms around Elder Bednar and thanked him for taking him to see his son play in the championship basketball game because his son knew how much his father loved him.

Aaron got a little choked up when he told the story and I could tell that it really hit home to him. This weekend really was the greatest stake conference EVER!
